“My Backyard” Jeff Sims Solo Exhibition
Opening Reception: October 1st, 4-6 pm in conjunction with the MSFF Fall Juried Exhibition
This is a collection of works from North Central WV, Southern Alabama, and the places I frequent. One was literally from my backyard. Many painters paint subjects from all over the world and yet miss the wonders around them. I chose to start with the most familiar surroundings and build from there.
After a long time of painting almost exclusively wildlife, I decided to branch out into other subjects such as botanical and still lifes’. All subjects are scenes that I have directly encountered and have struck me as paintable!
Displaying in the Maxwell Gallery.

Log Cabin Quilters Guild Exhibition
Opening Reception: December 3rd, from 4-6PM.
The purpose of the Log Cabin Quilters’ Guild is to promote and preserve the tradition of quilt making and encourage fellowship among members.
Through various activities, the Guild strives to build community, creativity, and charitable giving. This is accomplished by having educational programs, and several workshops throughout the year to learn new techniques and to make quilts for charity projects namely, “Quilts for Dialysis Patients” and a “Quilt of Valor” for a female veteran. Informal sewing sessions called Sip & Sews (lemonade in summer – cocoa in winter) and overnight retreats offer uninterrupted, focused time for quilting which lead to creative rejuvenation and productivity These settings are a great opportunity for skill development and relaxation. Their annual Log Cabin Quilt Show is an opportunity for local residents & out-of-towners to gather, appreciate local artistry, connect with the quilters, and learn about the process of quilt making.
This coming year, 2026, the Log Cabin Quilters’ Guild will celebrate 40 years of quilt making as an organized group. It began with seven members who met during the summer of 1986 & opened it to membership in the autumn. From these seven “founding quilters”, the Guild has well over 80 members today; evidence that this rich and versatile craft has enduring appeal & is flourishing with each new member.

“Constant Moment” Lina Arnold Solo Exhibition
Opening reception is Wednesday December 3, from 4-6 pm.
“This is my first ever exhibit! I have mixed feelings of pride and fear. But it brings me great joy and pleasure to do art, I hope by looking at my works - others could feel this too.
Nature is the biggest inspiration for me. Nature and how you're feeling about the surrounding world - that's all you need to start and continue. I am always amazed by plants and all flora, that element is constant in my works.
I believe every artist encounters in his life - what you imagine in your mind - doesn't always lay from your hand exactly on the surface. You see an idea in your head - what comes out - is it better? Is it worse? Who could say? You can't show exactly what you have in your mind - it comes out as only an echo of your thoughts. Who can judge? The artist is the harshest judge of his work, I believe. Then you say - I had it differently in my head, now I have to try again, but the idea changed and next time it comes out different again, cause life changed, thinking changed, opinion and mood and feeling are different. Again.
...and you always wish that there would be more than 24 hours a day :-)” - Lina Arnold, 2025.

"Judy Van Gundy; A Life of Art & Craft” solo exhibition
Opening Reception: Thursday, January 29th, from 5-7PM.
“Even as a child, I remember creating things. My friend and I would gather flowers, weeds, grasses, and leaves to make corsages and bouquets that we would sell from the front steps and sometimes sell door-to-door in the neighborhood. My Mom crocheted, knitted, and crafted “favors” for her bridge club. My Dad and both grandfathers had workshops in their basements. I got my first toolbox at about the age of 6. My one grandmother was an amazing seamstress, and I spent a lot of time with her watching and learning. I was fortunate enough to know my great-grandmothers, two of whom were quilters.
I guess I’m the product of many creative, talented people that I have been fortunate enough to have known and love. They were always encouraging and praiseful of my efforts. I still get a sense of them and their approval”

“Soul Fire,” a Stained-Glass Solo Exhibition by Stellathena Gregory
Opening Reception: August 7th, from 5-7PM.
“I am an artist. I have been since I was a child. I have no formal training, only a tender
introduction and encouragement by my mother and steady observation of other skillful artists.
What I lack in formal training I make up for with many decades of experience and attentive
practice.
Art offered an escape from chaotic childhood. I began with drawings, then oil painting, then
stained glass, then watercolor painting. Art has shaped and saved me from a lifelong struggle
with anxiety. There has been no better therapy for me.
Aside from my family, stained glass is my passion. It allows me a continuous opportunity to
incorporate all the mediums I love while developing stained glass designs. I often use my family
and nature for inspiration in my work. I especially use my husband’s blue eyes and other
features of strength and character in my work using glass as my paint. I often use mirrors in the
eyes of my subject matter to remind us to self-reflect and be mindful of our role and impact as
humans on each other and on this planet.
As I plan and draw out my designs I face my fears while talking myself through complicated
feelings and cementing my stance on issues involving politics, religion, extinction and climate
change. I find myself (a speck in a vast universe) looking for magic and hope while feeling deep
roots tendrilling deeper and deeper beside my husband and son.
Stained glass challenges me with a fragile medium that often bites back with cracked and
broken glass that cuts and burns me over and again, but I persist as I bleed in so many ways
and struggle to the beautiful end with an enduring glad result that lasts for generations if
properly cared for. Such is life.”

August Brown Bag Concert- Wish Awake
Sponsored by Davis Trust Company, Elkins, local bank
An original acoustic experience
Married couple, Stephanie and Leskie Tompkins of Elkins, WV, have been writing their special brand of music together since they met in 2001, while Stephi was attending D&E College. Local to the area and sharing a love for the outdoors and it's enchantments, their passion for music grew.
Their shared musical tastes, spanning folk, rock, world music and even heavy metal, not only reflect in their collection of record albums, but in their ever growing catalog of original songs. While evolving musically, eventually forming a full 5 piece band, the singer/songwriters added their own arrangements of many standards and covers to compliment their unique Wish Awake sound.
The band is now back to their roots performing as an acoustic duo, Leskie on guitar and vocals and Stephi on vocals and hand percussion. Blending a variety of musical styles while bringing a high energy to the stage, Wish Awake has something special for every audience. While continuing to write new material and searching for the muse, Wish Awake is looking forward to bringing their magic to the stage again.

“Memory’s Landscape” a Solo Exhibition by Marjory Moses
Opening Reception: August 8th, from 5-7PM.
When I close my eyes and picture of where I come from and where I most want to be, I see the outline of the hills and hollows in West Virginia, an old Wayne County family farm, the woods I played in growing up in Kanawha County, the bogs and trails in Canaan Valley, the ponds and brambles and mountain I see near my house, glimpses of light through trees, cloudscapes, and water - the Coal River, Elk River, the Blackwater, the Mon, and the Kanawha, the waves of the Atlantic.
These images/memories are so integral to who I am as a person, that they’re embedded into every impulse of my artwork.
Although I’ve been making jewelry for more than 15 years now, my visual art has gone on in the background. I used to paint landscapes in a romantic-realism style, but the urge to abstract was always there, and I’ve been moving more and more toward a process that includes intuition+memory+gesture+layers of paint, charcoal, and oil pastel. These paintings are part of that ongoing body of work: Memory’s Landscape.
- Marj Moses, 2025

Clay is a Canvas - Nanette Seligman Solo Exhibition
Opening Reception: June 13th, 5-7PM
“I am a painter and a potter. I no longer take a break from pottery to do a painting or vice versa. Clay is now my canvas. I work out of my studio/gallery 533 Fairfax Avenue in Davis, WV with a view overlooking the beautiful Appalachian Mountains.
I think many potters will tell you that clay chose them. I talk to other potters that were first painters. They say once they touched clay they were hooked. The technical aspect of clay is a wonderful challenge. The idea that I make my canvas (pottery) to paint on is exciting. I am making, refining, and participating in every aspect of my craft from constructing the form, decorating, glazing, and firing the work.
I use porcelain because unlike earthenware or stoneware it is a pure gleaming white. Porcelain clays are unforgiving to work with. It shrinks, it warps, and it cracks - - - but all of ceramics is a challenge whether it be the quirks of glaze, clays or temperature of the kiln. Because I am building up the colors for the image, the pots are fired in the kiln four or five times before they have their final glaze firing. That means sometimes they have been fired for a total of fifty hours!
My work is nature based. My canvas is primarily plates; they are food safe but are also wired so they can be hung on the wall for decoration. The thrown plates have landscape or animal images using underglazes under a clear glaze. The images are in-keeping with my watercolor paintings. The fun part is the challenge of designing the local landscape images in the round for the rims of the plates. The vases, jars and small dishes are decorated with plants found in my yard, woods, and local gardens along with the patterned stamps I make.
I started with watercolor as an undergraduate then went on to receive my masters in ceramics. I spent my professional life as an art teacher being an active advocate for Arts education for all WV students on all grade levels. Even though I am no longer in the public school system I continue to teach workshops in my studio. I am proud to be National Board-Certified Teacher”- Nanette Seligman, 2025.
Displaying: June 13th to July 31st in the Maxwell Gallery.

Souvenirs - Michael Doig Solo Exhibition
I’ve always found it interesting to imagine the way things looked long ago. I’m fascinated by the idea that the Appalachian Mountains were first formed around 480 million years ago, and subsequent periods of erosion and tectonic plate collisions gave us the mountains that we are familiar with today. As an artist, I try to create work that reflects these geological processes by using images from the past and allowing the oil painting process itself to mimic the natural forces that have shaped the world by slowly building up layers of paint, and then allowing drips to obfuscate and distort parts of the images, I became interested in spray paint and pop art images, while working in a bicycle repair shop in Seattle, Washington, I developed a fondness for images that were often juxtaposed with run down sections of town, or otherwise industrial areas, and it seems that the artists who made these images were often making pieces that were more interesting than the ones I would find in galleries and museums, and I became interested in finding out why that was, I thought maybe it had to do with the nature of spray painting, one is not necessarily constrained by a studio, the rules of “fine art “, rather one has to work quickly, in the outdoors working with images that can convey a message across cultural and political lines.
My hope is that these paintings can offer the viewer a chance to think about the fragmentary moments that pass us by with little notice, and yet become important to us with the passage of time, as each
painting references the past and offers a meditation on our place in the world. I don’t seek to hide the
painting process, which allows the images to be recognized as self-conscious attempts to create an
experience which references history, geology, mythology, and the nature of artistic expression.

D&E Student Art Exhibtion
Opening Reception: March 14th, 4-6PM
Displaying from March 14th to April 16th on grey panels in the Great Hall.
The work is that of student art majors, minors and other students who are studying other fields and taking art courses as a general elective class. The exhibit will include paintings, prints, ceramic, drawings, digital images, digital photographs and 3D sculptural pieces. “All our students work very hard to create what they see in their mind when they start working on their artwork. The process of making art involves creative thinking, daily observation and many practice drawings to work out the final outline of their idea. Sometimes that idea changes in the course of creating and the students must figure out how to make their work adapt to those changes. Creating artwork involves lots of problem solving on the part of the creator to get it right,” Woodcock says. “The students work very hard and take pride in their artwork and this exhibition is an opportunity for them to share it with the community.”
The D&E Creative Art Department faculty is made up of Associate Professor of Art, Chair Kevin “Woody” Woodcock, Assistant Professor of Art Korey Burns and Adjunct Instructors Eric Armstrong, Desire Watson, Margaret Bruning, Tessa Garver-Daniels and Natalie Josimovich.
