Improvisational Dance

$25.00

Meets Monday mornings July 7, 14 ,21, at 9 am. 90 minute session.
Dance Art Instructor Barbara Byers

Drawing inspiration from Alexander Technique, Authentic Movement and Improvisational practices, this course will create a welcoming environment where we can explore our relationship with space, gravity, sensation and thought. We will observe our habits as a movers, explore possibility, nurture our spirit and expand our awareness through engaging ease and imagination in motion.

A typical class will begin with a warmup, explore a movement concept or technique, and then build on that technique with group and solo improvisations, guided imagery and games. Class will end with a cool down and a group discussion of our experiences and thoughts.

This class is open to all levels of experience and physical ability. It is an encouraging and inclusive space where you can get the movement that you need each day, whether that’s an intensive workout or an hour of gentle moving meditation. One benefit of this practice is the insight we can gain working in group and self-reflective states where we let our imagination and senses open up to possibility. What we learn about ourselves and our habits can help us find greater ease and openness in our everyday lives. If you’re there, you’re contributing a powerful presence and influence on everyone’s learning journey, whether you’re lying on the floor or leaping in the air!
