Class Description: Needle felting as an art/craft form grew out of the industrial creation of large sheets of felt for automobile insulation, piano keys and other such uses. While those applications utilize machines with hundreds of sharp, barbed needles to mechanically tangle fibers into a sturdy fabric, students in this class will use single needles to create both a dimensional heart shaped ornament and a simple but complex looking pendant for a necklace. Both wool fibers and a variety of cotton, silk, and other fibers will be available for decoration as students learn this relatively new art.
