Alice-Gervais, Studio 405, Elkins, West Virginia, 26241

My professional name is Alice-Gervais I work as a pen and ink artist, a photographer, a painter and painting instructor with a focus on my world around me. I try to execute my creativity in a diverse and colorful style. I enjoy using a layered painting technic, but it's not exclusive. Other technics include, dry brushing, mixing paints on the canvas, palate knife, dirty pours, it all depends on the body of work. My emphasis is on people, moments and emotions experienced through the lens of my daily journey. I was born in Miami, Fla. and raised in Fla, NYC and West Virginia; and I was exposed to a diverse, artistic and complicated realty that fueled my artistic desire at an incredibly young age. In the past, my work consisted of animals, landscapes and anything anyone would pay me to paint or draw. However, for the past 10 years I have switched my focus to current pertinent topics. It is my way to release the impotent rage I feel from the insane injustices that continue in the 21st century. My current body of work, I hope will have the ability to give the viewer, thought provoking pause.

The style I use is varied, ever-changing and evolving with very few pieces being alike. I have always been inspired by the impressionists and the Masters; However, it has been the artists that I have known through my travels, shows and community, that have given me the most inspiration. There are too many to name individually, but two stand out in my mind, WV oil pastel artist Beth Crowder. She was artist in residence in Clarksburg Wv and one of my instructors, and Michael Doig, oil painter, Professor of Fine Arts, at Davis and Elkins college.
