Philips Kolsun

Philips B. Kolsun is a West Virginia-based photographer whose work explores the landscapes, communities, and stories that define Appalachia and the American experience. Raised in Elkins, West Virginia, Phillips developed a deep appreciation for the natural beauty, rich history, and enduring character of the Mountain State—an appreciation that continues to influence his photography today.

Through his lens, Philips seeks to capture more than just a scene; he strives to preserve the spirit of a place. His photography ranges from the rolling mountains and small towns of West Virginia to iconic destinations across the United States, including the Badlands, Devils Tower, Theodore Roosevelt National Park, and Mount Rushmore. Whether photographing a quiet Appalachian backroad, a historic downtown, or a dramatic western landscape, his images reflect a passion for storytelling and a belief that every location has a unique story worth sharing.

Philips is the owner of Kolsun Media, LLC, where he provides professional photography, videography, livestreaming, and creative media services throughout West Virginia and beyond. His work has been featured in community publications, tourism promotions, and regional media projects, and he is an active supporter of local arts, education, and nonprofit organizations.

In addition to his commercial work, Philips pursues personal photography projects that celebrate the people, places, and traditions that shape America’s communities. His images invite viewers to slow down, explore, and connect with the landscapes and histories that surround them.

Philips lives in Elkins, West Virginia, where he continues to document the beauty of Appalachia while seeking new adventures on the open road.
