John Terry

Born in Ohio, raised in New Jersey, my wife, Joan and I found our way to West Virginia about twenty-plus years ago. I attended Pratt Institute as an art major and graduated from, what is now, Rowan University with honors in Art Education. In a New Jersey high school, I taught art and photography, as well as advising 34 yearbooks, designing or directing 19 mainstage musicals and 24 plays and numerous melodramas and children’s pieces.

Along the way, I took on free-lance graphic design projects, and produced a line of rail themed items, which included 24 holiday cards from my acrylic paintings, as well as rail-related book cover art.

These days, I’ve taken a stab at needle felting, and try to keep up with the rapid changes in digital photography. However, the artistic accomplishments of which I’m most proud are the success of the few of my students I’ve been able to follow, both in the arts and beyond. They include teachers, actors, fine and graphic artists, two department heads with Disney, and an “A” list Hollywood actress, as well as the first female fire chief in Philadelphia.
