2019 Juried Fall Exhibition

Truly a favorite for many artists in WV. The Juried Fall Exhibit, taking place the week of the 83rd Mountain State Forest Festival, features artwork from residents and students throughout West Virginia. Exhibit displays from October 2 to December 19. Awards will be announced at the reception on opening night, Wednesday, October 2, from 6 to 8 pm.

Awards: Best of Show, First Place, Second Place, Third Place, Honorable Mention (2), STAG (2), Davis Trust Purchase Prize, WVWS Award, Talbott Frame Shop Certificate, Queens Choice, Maid of Honors

JUROR FOR THE FALL JURIED EXHIBITION IS SUSAN JOHNSTON.

Johnston has been active in the arts throughout her adult life. Earning her arts education degree from Westminster College in New Wilmington, Pennsylvania, she then taught art in public schools, worked as an illustrator and feature artist in HousePlant Magazine from 1992 to 1994, served as an adjunct faculty member in painting, conducted watercolor workshops, and volunteered in various towns to help bring more arts programming to communities. She currently serves as a member of the Garrett County Arts Council board of directors.

The artist is a past state president of the West Virginia Watercolor Society, for which her emphasis was providing grass-roots opportunities for artists to learn, as well as exhibit works in their own communities.

Her paintings have been accepted in regional and national shows, at which she has garnered numerous awards. In addition to having her art on display at The Gallery Shop in Oakland, her work is included in public and private collections in Pennsylvania, Ohio, Iowa, Missouri, Delaware and West Virginia. She has presented solo shows at numerous colleges as well.

ELIGIBILITY/REQUIREMENTS FOR ADULTS:

*Open to all WV residents, 18+, both Amateurs and Professionals

*All mediums accepted, no jewelry

2D: must be professionally framed, with a wire hanging device. Plexiglass is preferred for entries exceeding 36 in

3D: must not exceed 40 lbs, safe from dangerous edges

*Limit FOUR (4) entries per adult

*Entry Fees: Members $35 and Non Members $45. MUST be a member of The Arts Center in order to receive the entry member rate!

DROP OFF DATES FOR ADULTS AND STUDENTS:

SUNDAY, SEPTEMBER 29 FROM 9 TO NOON

OR DURING REGULAR BUSINESS HOURS, SEPT 24 TO SEPT 27, 10 TO 4

Student Fall Art Show

Requirements/Eligibility:

*Must be currently enrolled in a WV primary or secondary school

*Medium: All 2D/3D mediums accepted, no jewelry

*Label the back, lower left side of the work with name, title, instructor, and school

Entries: 2 entries per student

*2D: must be mounted on foam board (no frames) Foam Board does not bend or sway.

*3D: should be free standing

Fee: $5 per student, Cash, Check, Credit (processing fees applied on credit)

Entry fees support the exhibit display. Ribbons Only.

Art Center Sliders, Run 4 It

Registration will open on April 1, 2019 for the 13th annual RUN FOR IT, a 2k walk and 5k race hosted by the Tucker Community Foundation.

This year’s race will start at 11 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 28 in the town of Davis during the Leaf Peepers Festival. The 2k course is 1.2 miles around town, walk only and the 5k is 3.1 miles and winds through the town. The 5k is USATF sanctioned and the course is for walkers and competitive runners.

The registration cost is $10 with half of the entry fee supporting a charity of the participant’s choice. Individuals or teams can register online, raceroster.com/22458, or download an entry form or event packet at www.tuckerfoundation.net/run

Teams must register before August 31. Racers can pre-register up to Sept. 24 or onsite (Davis Volunteer Fire Department) Friday, Sept. 27 and Saturday, Sept. 28 and join a team.

The Tucker Community Foundation challenges participants to raise team support for the community causes and charities of their choice during a six-month campaign and then run or walk for that cause In September.

More than 200 cash awards are given to the teams raising the most awareness and support along with demonstrating the best effort or having the best T-shirt.

Half of entry fees, 100 percent of team sponsor donations, and 100 percent of race day awards are distributed to the cause represented.

Since its inception, RUN FOR IT has generated more than $1.75 million for participating organizations throughout the region. Last year more than 1,400 racers of all ages and abilities lined up to walk, run or roll (wheelchair or stroller).
