Winter 2012 Events at the Arts Center!

Brown Bag Lunch Concerts — Free monthly concerts every third Wednesday at noon in the Great Hall, sponsored by Davis Trust Company. Come early and bring your lunch!

Quilts Old and New — Through March 3 in the Great Hall. An exhibit featuring eleven quilts created or owned by members of the Log Cabin Quilters Guild of Elkins and local residents, is on exhibit at the Randolph County Community Arts Center through March 3.  The exhibit, curated by artists Judy Van Gundy and Maggi Rhudy, is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through March 3. Weekend hours will be announced.

Vincent Trimboli Solo Exhibit --- Through March 3 in the Maxwell Gallery. Organic Movement of the Body and Color, a solo exhibition of the recent work of Elkins artist Vince Trimboli will be on display in the Maxwell Gallery of the Randolph County Community Arts Center through March 3, 2012.  The exhibit is open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.  Weekend hours will be announced.

Winter Session of Arts Classes and Workshops --- Classes begin the week of Jan. 30th – March 10th. An assortment of classes and workshops are offered.  See details inside.

Brown Bag Concert — Wednesday, Feb. 15 at noon features Pam Roberts. Admission is free. Sponsored by the Davis Trust Company.

History of New Orleans Jazz, a lecture by Ed Wise --- Friday, Feb. 17, 2012 at 5:30 p.m. Wise will discuss the musical and social circumstances surrounding the birth of jazz at the end of the 19th century, including presentations on Mississippi delta blues, Midwest ragtime, the 3-tiered social structure of New Orleans and the role of the Mississippi River system and riverboats in the spread of New Orleans jazz to the rest of the country.  Some discussion of the recording industry's impact will also be featured.

Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band Family Series performance — Saturday, Feb. 18 at 4 p.m. "New Orleans, Jazz and Mardi Gras" - Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band will present a concert of a musical genre unique to the Crescent City - Mardi Gras music! Like Christmas with its carols and holiday songs, there is a special body of music used in the celebrations and parades of Mardi Gras. Ed and the guys will perform a variety of tunes from this special holiday season, old and new. Fun for everyone! All tickets for the 4 p.m. show are $5.

Ed Wise and his New Orleans Jazz Band Saturday Evening Concert Series performance --- Feb. 18 at 7:30 p.m. In March of 2005, just five months before Hurricane Katrina brought her devastation to the Crescent City, Wise assembled seven of the city’s finest players. Critics call this eight-piece New Orleans Jazz band “a talented, crowd pleasing, toe-tapping throwback to the dawn of the jazz era and the birthplace of Dixieland.” Tickets for the 7:30 p.m. show are:  $15/adults, $13/seniors, $5/students.

Early Spring Session of Arts Classes and Workshops --- Classes begin the week of March 12 and run through April 14. An assortment of classes and workshops are offered.  See details inside.

Cathie Ryan — Saturday, March 3 at 7:30 p.m., an Evening Concert Series performance. Irish American Ryan, with her crystalline vocals and insightful songwriting, is an original and distinctive voice in Celtic music. Since her acclaimed seven-year tenure as lead singer of Cherish the Ladies, she has established herself as one of the genre’s most popular and enduring singer-songwriters. Tickets: $13/adults, $11/seniors, $5/students.

Randolph County Student Art Exhibit --- March 17 to May 5. An opening reception will be held on Saturday, March 17, time TBA.  Open Tuesdays through Fridays from 10:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. through May 5. Weekend hours will be announced.
