Summer is a Splendid Thing!          June 14 - 18, 2010         3:00 - 5:00      $65                      Teacher: King
Kindergarten - Fifth grades. (Students must have completed kindergarten.)

Students will let the freedom of summer inspire them as they create artworks in a variety of media to celebrate the wonders of these warm days! All the great things of summer - flowers, plants, birds, animals and reptiles - will become the inspiration for a variety of art projects. Media explored will include printmaking, watercolor, clay, tempera, oil pastels and more.

Eat Your 'Art Out"                          July 5th through 9th         12:30 - 4:30    $125                    Teacher: Hicks
Kindergarten - Fifth grades. (Students must have completed kindergarten.)

Students will take a week long, artistic venture with the 'food' artists. Using a variety of media, such as oil-pastels, paint, and recyclable materials, campers will create cake collages in the style of Thiebaud, printed posters in the style of Warhol and amazing sculptures in the style of Oldenburg. Pizza, watermelon and ice-cream will be created without gaining a pound!! Camp will also include a daily 'snack' created in the RCCAC kitchen.

Summer Survey of Art                July 12 - 16 12:30 - 4:30                            $125                    Teacher:  Proudfoot Payne
Kindergarten - Fifth grades. (Students must have completed kindergarten.)

Young artists will have fun gathering information pertaining to various art techniques through the creation of a portfolio. From learning to draw what they see, folding and dyeing fabric, binding a sketchbook, to compiling a series of prints, artists will explore the basics of different art medias and techniques while utilizing the elements and principles of art. This class is great for those who love art and want to learn more. Repeat campers will enjoy new approaches to a variety of media while further developing skills acquired in earlier camps. All campers should bring a prewashed, 100% cotton white shirt on the first day.

Camp Blue Planet                    August 2-6 1:00 - 5:00        4th - 6th graders         $125            Teacher: Bross-Fregonara

A weeklong investigation into what makes our blue planet so special- from astronomy to diversity to geology and paleontology. All science related activities are very hands-on with one large final art project at the conclusion of the week. After this camp, students will be more familiar about the natural world around them. This will be a jump-start for continued science explorations in school. Activities will be based on proven Project Wild, Aquatic Wild and Flying Wild curricula that are fun and educational.

Let’s Play, Sing and Create in Español!     August 9-13     12:30 - 4:30            $125                Teachers: Martin and King
3rd - 6th grades (Students must have completed 3rd grade.)

Join language teacher Brad Martin and art teacher Beth King on a journey to Spanish speaking countries around the world! Using games and songs from the Hispanic World, Señor Martin will lead the campers as they learn to sing (or chant, recite, or rap) a number of well known and lesser-known songs as well as play games. Students will craft game pieces and materials to be able to play the games later at home. With art teacher Beth King, campers will meet artists such Picasso, Goya, Miro, and Dali while discovering more of the language, music, games, and cultures of Spanish speaking countries worldwide. Students will use a variety of media and processes to create wonderful works of art, all with a Spanish flair! Spanish music and a few tasty treats will round out the experience.
