Gala Exhibit Awards Announced 

The Randolph County Community Arts Center announced the award winners in their Eighth Annual Gala Exhibit at their Gala on the evening on September 11th. Thirteen awards were presented to the 34 artists with works on exhibit.

Juror for the exhibit was Bill Vrscak of Pittsburgh. Vrscak, a free-lance artist/illustrator and signature member of the American Watercolor Society. Vrscak noted, "It has been an honor serving as the juror for the 2009 Gala Art Exhibition. I enjoyed the wide variety of subject matter and the serious effort by each artist to inject his or her personal emotions into each individual piece. I was particularly drawn to those pieces that showed a willingness to go beyond the subject matter and present a special vision, unique to the artist."

David Shombert received the Best of Show Award for his Circle Vase of Avodire and Amazakoue woods pictured at left.  Betty Neely received the First Place award for her watercolor Glacial Enchantment. Tammy Copeman received the Second Place award for her concrete and marble sculpture Healing Horse. Ruth Blackwell Rogers received the Third Place award for her acrylic and oil pastel Dancing with the Northern Andes. Laurie Goldstein-Warren received the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center Special Award for her watercolor Soup to Nuts #3.

The following artists received honorable mention awards: Lauren Adams for her oil on canvas July 5 - Prickett's Creek; Michael Doig for his oil on canvas The Klines (Harvest Home); Mary Ann Honcharik for her photograph Dolly Road, Cow at Gate; Deborah McHenry for her watercolor with crayon Flow Series - I; Joseph McInroy for his pastel Purple Top; Suzan Morgan for her fiber work Time Flies with Coffee; Derek Overfield for his acrylic on masonite Painting 12; and Linda Walker Roberts for her watercolor Tulip Sunset.

The Gala Exhibit will be open from 9:30 a.m.– 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday through September 23rd. Also on exhibit in the Maxwell Gallery is the solo exhibition “Trucks and Men” featuring the watercolors and hooked rug artwork of artist June Myles. The Myles Exhibit will be open through October 9th.

The 2009 Gala Exhibit is sponsored by the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center, located on the Beverly Five Lane - South of Elkins. ERCC is a non-profit organization dedicated to nursing home services for both skilled and intermediate care residents.
