RCCAC Announces Awards in Sixth Annual Gala Exhibit
 
The Randolph County Community Arts Center announced the award winners in their Sixth Annual Gala Exhibit at their Gala on the evening on September 7th. Sixteen awards were presented to the 29 artists with works on exhibit.
 
The juror for the exhibit was Margaret Graham Kranking, a professional artist and signature member of the American Watercolor Society and the National Watercolor Society. She is also a signature member of the Washington Society of Landscape Painters as well as Signature member in 13 state and regional societies.  She is an official United States Coast Guard Artist and is listed in Whošs Who in America and Whošs Who in American Art. Kranking's work reflects her fascination with the effects of sunlight on rural and city life - portraying moments of dramatic light with heightened color and contrast.  A native of South Carolina, Kranking has spent most of her life in the Washington, DC area- where she graduated summa cum laude from American University.

Receiving the Best of Show award for Three Dimensional Work was Margo Blevin for Dreaming of Home, a terracotta sculpture. The Best of Show Award for Two Dimensional Work was awarded to Don Hall for Montrose Farm, an oil painting. Amanda Nagy received the First Place Award for Ascension, a digital photograph. Monica Wilkins received the Second Place Award for Fontaine Bleu, a Watercolor painting. The Third Place Award went to Lisbet Okun for In The Canyon, a   textile work. Laurie Goldstein-Warren received The Elkins Regional Convalescent Center Choice Award for her work Koi #1, a watercolor painting. 
 
The following artists received honorable mention awards: Paul and Brenda Bonnes for The Triple Goddess, a wood, copper, silver foil, acrylic paint box; Mary Ann Honcharik for Camp 70 Rd Bog 2006, a photo print; Joan Kefover for Clay Head, a clay sculpture; Fran Kordek for Corn and Beans, a quilt; Michael Ledden for The Old Homeplace, an oil painting; Bill McWhorter for Route 92, an acrylic painting; Marjory Moses for Ocracoke Dunes, an oil painting; Jesse F. Reed for Farm in  Appalachian Foothills, a watercolor painting; David Shombert  for Ambrosia Maple Platter,  in wood; and Kenneth Waddell for Festival, a watercolor painting.
 
The Sixth Annual Gala Exhibit is on display through September 26th and is open from 9:00 ­ 3:00, Monday through Friday.  Call for additional hours. The exhibit will be on display during the September 15th, 8 PM Evening Concert Series performance of The Dave Leonhardt Jazz Group with the Shelley Oliver Tap Dancers, the September 19th noontime Brown Bag Concert, and the September 22nd, 4 PM Childrenšs Concert Series performance by Two of a Kind.
 
This year's Gala Exhibit is sponsored by the Elkins Regional Convalescent Center.  The RCCAC, a non-profit organization promoting and supporting the arts in Randolph County and the surrounding areas, is located at the corner of Randolph Avenue and Park Street in Elkins.
