Egg Basket Workshop Saturday, March 3 at RCCAC

An Egg Basket Workshop led by local fiber artist and basket maker Leslie Henderson will be held at the Randolph County Community Arts Center on March 3 from 10:00 to 2:00. Students will have the opportunity to work with Henderson as they create their own egg basket.

The traditional egg basket is a contemporary version of an ancient design. Egg baskets are a type of ribbed basket that curves gracefully yet is deceptively sturdy.  The framework is similar to the ribs of a boat and may have been originated by the Celts.  In the United States, ribbed baskets were made by the Scots-Irish and German settlers in our Appalachian region and continue to be a popular choice for today's basket makers.  Often made to exacting dimensions for measuring goods from grain to coal, antique
ribbed baskets can be found in almost any shape and size. Students will use a variety of materials including vines, reed, bark, twine, and cloth to liven up this traditional basket.

Cost for the workshop is $35 and includes all supplies. Pre-registration is required.  Call 637-2355 or visit the RCCAC website at www.randolpharts.org
