Calligraphy Workshop Features Local Artist

The Randolph County Community Arts Center is hosting a calligraphy workshop on Saturday, May 12, from 10:00 AM 2:00 PM.  Artist Noodie Runner will lead the workshop.

Runner is an experienced calligrapher and has studied with world-renowned calligraphers Thomas Ingmire, Ward Dunham and Donald Jackson. She holds membership in the Huntington and Charleston Calligraphy Guilds and has exhibited her work at the Huntington Museum of Art as well as the Cultural Center in Charleston.  She has also taught classes at the Morgantown Studio of Art and at Salem College.

Runner will introduce calligraphy using a broad edged pen nib in creating an Italic alphabet.  "Starting with this alphabet is sometimes criticized, but I use it because most students want a Oprettyı hand when they think of calligraphy," Runner said.  "Participants will learn proper hand position, pen angle and letter scale to allow them to achieve the desired weight of the writing, and to ensure consistency and create an elegant script.  The workshop will review the italic alphabet and use that skill to letter a piece to take home.

Cost of the workshop is $30 and includes all supplies.  Pre-registration is required.  For more information or to register for the workshop call the RCCAC at 637-2355 or visit the website at www.randolpharts.org <http://www.randolpharts.org> .
